The Season Of Pentecost An ancient Hebrew harvest festival that came to be associated with the giving of God's law at Mount Sinai, Pentecost became for Christians the occasion for the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church. The Spirit is the power of the resurrected Jesus in our midst, claiming us in baptism, feeding us at communion, and sending us into the world to be bearers of that divine word that can raise the dead to new life.
